Charity Bake Off 4Louis at Cygnet Maple House
The Psychology Team won with their outstanding Victoria Sponge, whilst everyone enjoyed the bake sale the following day. Despite changeable weather, the event created a welcoming atmosphere where families and neighbours from the local village connected over conversation, tea, coffee and cake.
The event proved particularly meaningful for local residents discovering more about the hospital. One neighbour commented: “I had no idea that the hospital had changed and didn’t realise what really happened here. I’ve lived in the village for years and have never been.”
A retired nurse was inspired by conversations with staff, explaining: “This has reignited a passion. I would love to volunteer or support at Maple House with future events.”
For patients, the day offered valuable community engagement opportunities. One participant shared: “It was nice to do the baking, better doing the tasting and fun to talk with the neighbours and other visitors. It really made it feel like we’re making a difference.”
The bake off raised £140 for Cygnet Maple House’s charity of the year, 4Louis, that supports anyone affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and the death of a baby or child, bringing their total fundraising to £1,452.
