Akano’s passion for horse riding
Akano, a service user at Cygnet Sherwood Lodge, is now on to his third visit to Derbyshire Pony Trekking Centre and has truly developed a passion for horse riding.
Beth Taylor, Activity Coordinator, said: “Akano is now off lead rein and walking independently with the help of the fabulous trek leaders at DPT. Akano rode a new horse to the centre named Henry who was is big softie and I was on the lovely Heidi.
“Horse riding and equine therapy provide physical, emotional and mental improvements. Some physical benefits are motor skills, better posture and core stability. Some mental and emotional benefits are anxiety relief, confidence boosting and emotional regulation.
“I am a keen equestrian and I love being able to share my passion with our service users and seeing how much enjoyment they gain from being around horses.”
