Celebrating Social Care at Cygnet

Gareth Williams

This month, Skills for Care are running a campaign – #CelebratingSocialCare – to highlight the incredible people who work in care. As part of the campaign Gareth Williams, CEO of Cygnet’s Social Care division, shares some of his personal highlights from the last 12 months of working in social care.

Working in social care is both challenging and hugely rewarding. The work we do is pivotal, looking after the most vulnerable people in our society. Which is why it takes a special person, with special skills, traits and attributes to do it.

The last 12 months has been very positive for Cygnet Social Care with the exciting inauguration of the new Cygnet Social Care brand. This launch has enabled the division to really find its identity and to showcase all the brilliant things that we do in Social Care.

People who work in social care are highly-skilled, passionate and hard-working and it’s important that we all take time to recognise the work that people who work in social care do and the impact this has in supporting people who draw on care to live their lives how they choose.

Much like the existing Skills for Care campaign, our first campaign in the wake of the rebrand launch was aimed at presenting the amazing work that our carers, do day in day out, with the Cygnet Social Care Superpower Campaign.

As part of the campaign, six members of Cygnet Social Care staff shared inspirational stories about their careers in Social Care, why they love the job they do, and what they consider their Social Care Superpower to be. These extraordinary individuals demonstrate the unique qualities that our staff bring to their Social Care services. The campaign also highlighted the invaluable, positive difference they have made to the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in society.

Our next two campaigns, Cygnet in Bloom and the Interior Design competitions, were focused on our residents, who are at the centre of everything that we do. I want all our residents to have both a home which they are proud of and a home that they feel represents them. With the purpose of achieving this objective, funds were given to the staff and the residents, so that they could work hand-in-hand, engaged in collaboration, to redevelop both their outside gardens alongside the interiors in their homes.

Many of these wonderful and inspiring designs and creations were led by colour, sensory, personal interests and things that bring smiles to faces. We were truly bowled over by the thought, effort, creativity and teamwork that went into these projects, the results of which will be enjoyed for many years to come.

These are just some of the many highlights which showcase how our Social Care teams at Cygnet go the extra mile every day to make a difference to the lives of our residents.

You can get involved in #CelebratingSocialCare too by sharing your support, good news stories and shoutouts for your colleagues on social media tagging @SkillsForCare and @Cygnet and using #CelebratingSocialCare.
