Dr Salim Matta is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director with extensive experience leading large-scale clinical, operational, and digital transformation across mental health services in England, Wales, and Scotland.
Over the past decade, he has driven major quality improvements, eliminating inadequate regulatory ratings across dozens of services and establishing robust clinical governance frameworks now adopted nationally.
His work focuses on delivering safe, evidence-based, patient-centred care while building high-performing multidisciplinary teams. Alongside colleagues he has led on the opening of multiple new hospitals, worked with teams to develop innovative models of care in neuropsychiatry, forensic services and CAMHS, and championed co-production across our services.
A key part of Dr Matta’s leadership has involved strengthening the psychiatric workforce—creating CESR programmes, enhancing supervision structures, improving recruitment and retention, and establishing one of the largest regular professional development forums in the region.
He is deeply committed to digital transformation in mental healthcare, supporting in the implementation of real-time clinical dashboards, EPR, and EPMA systems to enhance quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
