Residents at Kirkside House and Lodge renovate garden
This spring, residents at Kirkside House and Lodge are brightening up their outdoor spaces, working hard on multiple renovation projects.
Residents have been preparing the raised beds and railway sleepers by:
- Sanding them with electric sanders to remove old paint and create smooth surfaces
- Painting them in vibrant colours to make them visually appealing
- Applying fresh paint to the new fence
The team also salvaged and restored an old seating shelter that was nearly discarded. The renovation included:
- Installing a new roof
- Creating unique seating using tree stumps and timber
- Applying fresh paint to rejuvenate the entire structure
The residents have developed woodworking skills by:
- Using drills to construct bird houses and bug hotels
- Taking their completed projects back to their residences to showcase their new abilities
- Building a functional wishing well feature with a working mechanism that allows the basket to be raised and lowered by turning a handle
These activities have not only improved the garden but also helped participants develop valuable skills, while welcoming the spring season.
