Pride at Cygnet Hospital Derby

Cygnet Hospital Derby recently celebrated Pride. The Occupational Therapy team facilitated Pride-themed activities, providing service users with opportunities to explore identity, learn about the significance of Pride, and engage in meaningful creative occupations.

Through group discussion, service users explored themes of diversity, inclusion and self-expression, reflecting on how identity contributes to a sense of self, belonging and wellbeing. From an OT perspective, supporting individuals to explore and express their identity can enhance self-esteem, confidence and occupational engagement.

Service users also participated in Pride based craft activities, using creativity as a meaningful occupation to promote self-expression, social participation and a sense of achievement. These activities supported engagement, communication and connection, while celebrating the uniqueness of each individual with some themed snacks and drinks to top the morning off.

The team said: “At Cygnet Hospital Derby, we recognise the importance of creating inclusive opportunities that support identity, wellbeing and recovery through meaningful occupation.”
