Nigerian Independence Day at Oaklands

Last week, Oaklands proudly celebrated Nigerian Independence Day, organised by their wonderful Multicultural Lead Daramola Hammed.

Residents and staff enjoyed a delicious traditional meal, lovingly prepared and cooked by Chimezie and Mercy, while listening to Nigerian music and learning interesting facts about the country’s culture and history.

Everyone was encouraged to wear green and white to represent the colours of the Nigerian flag, helping to make the day even more special.

Samantha Young, Activity Coordinator, said: “At Oaklands, we love celebrating different cultures and bringing people together. Sharing food, stories, traditions, and celebrations allows everyone to learn from one another and creates wonderful memories for all involved. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by everyone.”
