Long Eaton Day Service’s Sensory Space
Since January, staff have worked extremely hard converting the overgrown allotment into a sensory accessible space for the service users they care for. Throughout this project they have made connections with people within the local community whether that was finding supplies, talking to people who have plots on the allotment, the community garden or seeking advice from others.
The hope is that this allotment can provide an outdoor space where staff and service users can enjoy the outdoors. It will also help to develop life skills by bringing the produce they grow at the allotment back to the centre for food. Whilst here service users can enjoy a range of different activities alongside the music and water play exploration stations that staff have built on one of the fences.
One of the raised beds contains a range of different herbs and plants to allow the service users to explore a range of different smells and textures. This is an on-going project where staff and service users will continue to work on the allotment together to add their own finishing touches to it, to make it their own space that they can enjoy and be proud of.
