Cygnet Bury Forestwood celebrates retaining its 5-Star Food Hygiene Rating

Members of the Forestwood team with their food rating

Cygnet Bury Forestwood is celebrating once again after proudly retaining its 5 star rating from the Food Standards Agency — and this year, the achievement feels extra special.

The success comes after a creative partnership with the young people at the service, who worked alongside the Education and Catering Team to help shape a brand new menu for the service.

To make the process fun, meaningful, and hands on, the young people were invited to take part in a tasting session, giving them the chance to try a variety of dishes and share honest feedback. Participants were encouraged to comment on the appearance, taste, texture, and smell of each menu item, using their own words to describe what they liked (or didn’t!).

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with young people describing the dishes as:

  • “Appetising”
  • “Excellent for veggies”
  • “More ish”
  • “Looks good”
  • “Healthy”
  • “Spicy, but not too much”
  • “Good taste”
  • “I would eat this every day if I could”
  • “Love it!”

Their enthusiasm and honest reactions played a key role in finalising the updated menu. By involving the young people directly, Forestwood ensured that the food offered is not only nutritious and high quality, but also genuinely appealing to the young people in our care.

Ruth Emmott, General Manager, said: “Retaining the 5 star rating is a testament to the hard work, high standards, and commitment of Forestwood’s Catering Team — but also a celebration of teamwork, creativity, and youth voice. This collaborative approach reflects our ongoing dedication to creating a welcoming environment where young people feel heard, valued, and included in shaping the services they rely on.

“With the new menu ready to roll out, we are excited to continue working with young people on future projects, proving once again that when everyone gets involved, great things happen.”
