Bearsted Ward’s Garden Party
Bearsted Ward, our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit in Cygnet Hospital Maidstone hosted a party in collaboration with Occupational Therapy in their courtyard, to celebrate the opening of a miniature beach. Service users prepared a non-alcoholic fruit punch to serve guests. There was music, games including giant Jenga, garden bowls, and karaoke. The beach was well received by staff and service users alike.
The beach project is part of a ward courtyard regeneration which also contains a ‘nature garden’, with wild grasses and flowers and bench, and herb garden. Service users have started to use the garden to supplement their cooking, and making herbal teas. With the improvements made we hope that service users will enjoy the ward environment more.
