Autism Acceptance Month activities at Cygnet Manor

As part of Autism Acceptance Month, the Occupational Therapy at Cygnet Manor facilitated a group session; with an aim that was more than just about raising awareness – the group was developed to share understanding, inclusion and celebrate differences.

The Occupational Therapists and the Activity Coordinators facilitated sensory activities, particularly around tactile (touch) and taste, including a tactile discrimination game. The group enabled both individuals and staff to explore touch and taste that may be intense, in contrast, comforting or unpleasant; in order to identify preferences. This opened up wonderful discussions around preferences. The morning was filled with positivity, engagement, and plenty of smiles.
