Outwood resident Georgina improves health with pet therapy

Georgina, a resident at Outwood, had struggled to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Consistent exercise and balanced nutrition proved challenging, which affected her overall health.

Six months ago, our Deputy Manager Jade suggested something different: animal-assisted therapy.

Meeting Noodles

This approach introduced Georgina to Mel from MM Pet Therapy services and her delightful 8-year-old miniature golden doodle, Noodles. The connection was immediate. Georgina looked forward to their weekly visits, starting with quiet moments together in the garden whilst building trust.

Building Confidence Through Walking

As Georgina’s comfort grew, so did her confidence. After a few months, she began walking Noodles in the local area. These brief strolls gradually became longer and more frequent.

The real breakthrough came when Georgina started taking short walks even without Noodles present. This showed genuine motivation for physical activity that extended beyond therapy sessions.

Remarkable Results

Combined with dedicated support from our staff around dietary choices, Georgina achieved something significant: a healthy weight loss of 3kg in just two months.

Emotional Transformation

Noodles and Mel have become integral to Georgina’s development. Their consistent presence has created a trusting relationship and safe space for Georgina to express her feelings.

“They instantly lift her mood!” shared an Outwood team member. This emotional connection has helped Georgina communicate her needs more openly and effectively.

Continuing Success

Whilst Georgina’s health journey continues, her progress is undeniable. She feels incredibly proud of her achievements – and that pride is shared by every member of staff at Outwood.
