New mural at Cygnet Hospital Bierley

Charmaine Twidale, Cygnet’s Co-production Artist, has recently completed a new mural at Cygnet Hospital Bierley. The project started when Charmaine visited the hospital to chat with service users about ideas for murals they’d like to see and co-produce ideas. The theme of Diversity was picked for one of the main corridors.

After submitting some design concepts a lion design was picked as a final idea. The lion was picked as it represents strength. Rainbow colours where used to also represent diversity and LGBTQ+ as this was a very important factor service users wanted to see. After completing the lion, the bird and the bumble bee were picked to help extend the mural further to fill the space. The bird represents freedom and the bee represents protection.
