Ellen Mhor’s Beth and Vicky complete their first Munro Mountain
Beth and Vicky, residents at Ellen Mhor, recently completed their first Munro, a Scottish mountain over 3,000ft in height, after training for over a year with fortnightly hill walking trips across Scotland.
On a grey and windy afternoon, they conquered the Carn Aosda, part of the Grampians mountain range, which sits at 3009 ft. above sea level. Their day started early; making their lunches, printing maps of the route and packing water and snacks for their journey up the Munro. They then began the journey in the car to Glenshee where they began the steep and rugged climb to the summit of Carn Aosda.
Both Beth and Vicky were incredibly happy to make it to the top after a difficult climb up the rocky paths leading to the top of the mountain. This was a big achievement for Beth and Vicky as this was the first Munro mountain that they had ‘bagged’ – a goal they had set themselves when they started the hill walking group over a year ago.
Prior to this, they had already conquered over 20 big hills, mounts and glens across Perthshire, Angus, Fife and Aberdeenshire and they have their sights set on conquering another Munro in the coming months.
When asked about her achievement, Vicky said “I made it to the top. They will be proud of me. I was tired but I made it. Well done Vicky! Next time we will do a different hill”.
Fred, the Activity Coordinator at Ellen Mhor, who joined Beth and Vicky for their Munro ascent said “I’m very happy for them and proud of their achievement. It was a pleasure to be along for the adventure and help them achieve their goal. They demonstrated great perseverance and did not want to stop until they made it all the way to the top.”
The pair will continue on their hill walking adventures and plans are already afoot to take on a second Munro later in the year.
