East Hampton Ward get ‘Hooked on Fishing’
The fishing group is a big hit and helps to maintain and develop positive therapeutic relationships between service users and staff. They also provide service users the opportunity to develop new skills both socially and productively whilst having fun.
Paul O’Keefe from the OT team stated “Staff and service users working together was a pleasure to witness, the friendly competition to catch the biggest fish generated such a unique warm atmosphere. The day was a perfect example as to why we run such groups.”
Hannah Isaacson , a support worker on her first time out fishing added: “ Over the years I have heard lovely stories about the fishing group Paul facilitates and when asked if I’d like to go I didn’t hesitate especially as the sun was predicted to come with us. It was the best day ever, to witness our service users concentrate and be patient for long periods of time is something we don’t really experience in a ward environment. To see service users bond with each other and staff was a pleasure to see. As we can see by the pictures, everyone had a smile all day.”
