Cygnet St Augustine’s Visit Staffordshire Regiment Museum
The visit began indoors, where patients explored displays of historic regimental badges and uniforms, gaining insight into the lives and experiences of soldiers from different eras. They had the unique opportunity to try on various uniforms. Throughout the tour, an overhead speaker shared first-hand stories and accounts from soldiers, creating a powerful and moving experience for all.
The group then ventured outside, where they walked through reconstructed WWI trenches, complete with bunkers and hidden shelters, giving a glimpse into the day-to-day realities of wartime.
Patients engaged with interactive tasks, including letter-writing, using a live telephone, and even trying out the alarm bells. The tour finished at the remembrance garden, a place of reflection honouring the fallen soldiers of the Staffordshire Regiment.
They also explored authentic air raid shelters and viewed a life-size WWI missile, a striking reminder of history’s impact. This moving trip allowed patients to connect with history in a meaningful way, sparking conversations and reflections that will last well beyond the day.
