Cygnet Lodge and Cygnet Grange’s Charity Shrek Trek

Cygnet Lodge and Cygnet Grange celebrated Action for Brain Injury Week by walking 6.2 miles from Cygnet Grange to Cygnet Hospital Sherwood in fancy dress. Costumes included the likes of a homemade turtle shell, an inflatable cow and Shrek. The team and service users raised £130 for the charity Headway.

Headway works to improve people’s lives after acquiring brain injuries by providing support and information services. The charity, chosen by staff and patients due to their close connection to the cause, also provides emergency funds to assist people dealing with financial implications in the aftermath of a brain injury.

Action for Brain Injury Week, which runs from 19th to 25th May, is an annual campaign organised by Headway and aims to raise awareness of the issues faced by individuals and families affected by brain injuries.

Kelly LeGrice, Cygnet Grange Team Leader, said: “Headway is an important charity to everyone here at both Cygnet Grange and Cygnet Lodge. It is very close to our hearts and it does so much for people. Both of our services are also Headway-accredited so giving back to the charity meant a lot to both service users and staff. It is great to help such an important charity and our service users were proud of aiding a great cause. For our service users, walking 6.2 miles is a huge challenge and everyone is so proud of their efforts.

“Without donations, Headway would struggle to provide the excellent support they give to both individuals and families affected by brain injuries. Many people don’t realise that it isn’t just the individual affected but also their loved ones.”

The services are continuing to celebrate Action for Brain Injury Week with fundraising activities like a BBQ, garden party, crazy hair day and a pyjama day later in the week.
