Cygnet Hospital Harrow’s trip to Brighton Beach

The occupational therapy team at Cygnet Hospital Harrow recently organised a trip to Brighton beach for the service users of the hospital’s Springs services. During the trip the service users had the opportunity to visit go to the beach, play in the game arcades, eat at a restaurant and do a bit of local shopping. There were also visits to Sea Life Brighton, the 450ft high Brighton i360 and the Upside Down House!

Himani Nahta, Occupational Therapist, said, “The aim of the trip was to give our service users with autism and learning disability the opportunity to participate in various aspects of a leisure trip. This included planning what to wear, budgeting how much to spend their money, making decisions on what activities they want to do, socialising with peers, and navigate themselves in crowded places. The leisure aspect of the trip informed positive behaviour and motivated service users to participate meaningfully.”
