Cygnet Hospital Derby’s Annual Carers’ BBQ raises money for Mind
Outdoor games were relocated under marquees to keep everyone dry, while delicious BBQ food was served indoors by our dedicated staff team. An ice cream van positioned right at the entrance ensured that everyone could enjoy sweet treats without getting soaked.
One of the highlights was a musical performance by patients, accompanied by our music therapist on guitar, which provided wonderful entertainment for carers and families. The day also featured a special visit from therapy animals, including donkeys, goats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. Patients and carers alike enjoyed spending time with these gentle creatures under covered shelters.
Additional attractions included a snack cart serving fresh popcorn and candyfloss, mocktail making activities, and homemade cake prepared by one of the people we support. The day’s entertainment was rounded off with a quiz and raffle, ensuring everyone went home with prizes.
A particular highlight was the fundraising effort by one of the people we support, who organised a craft stall that raised an impressive £246.50 for Mind, the mental health charity.
As a token of appreciation, all carers received gift bags to thank them for their attendance and ongoing support. Some families had even travelled from as far as the Isle of Man and Wales to join this special day.
A heartfelt thanks to all staff members and people we support who helped organise this wonderful event – everyone is already looking forward to next year’s celebration.
