Cygnet Bury Hudson visit birds of prey centre
Gauntlet Birds of Prey – Eagle and Vulture Park is situated in Knutsford, Cheshire.
Established in 1996, the park is home to over 180 birds from 50 different species – it’s the largest collection in the North West of England. It is also one of only a handful of birds of prey parks in the UK to be a member of BIAZA (The British & Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums).
When the group entered the park, they were instantly transported around the world with birds from every continent. They met owls, eagles, vultures, falcons, hawks and more unusual species like the marabou stork and red-legged seriema. They spent the day there and enjoyed the magnificent flying demonstrations, vulture talk, and the meet and greet session.
One of the service users on Columbus ward, who is a very accomplished photographer, was happy to capture our fantastic experiences from the day and produce some wonderful pictures.
Paul OKeefe from the OT team added:
“Research has shown that exposure to nature, including birds, can help reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, and improve mood. The presence of birds and the sounds they make can be soothing and calming, and observing their behaviours and interactions with each other can be fascinating and engaging. The day was another huge success and which was enjoyed by all.”
