Cygnet Bury Hudson getting hooked on fishing

Over the past several years at Cygnet Bury Hudson, Paul O’Keefe from the Occupational Therapy team has been facilitating fishing groups within the different services across the site.

The group remains as popular as ever and already this year service users from deaf and hearing have been out enjoying the new season. Fishing isn’t just a hobby, for many it’s a form of therapy. Studies have shown that spending time outdoors, particularly near water, has a calming effect on the mind, helping to reduce stress and improve overall well-being. Fishing offers a unique combination of mental and physical engagement.

Paul adds:

“Each day out continues to provide immense therapeutic value for the service users. I feel very proud of what we have achieved over the years. I continue to get excited to be steering this group and coordinating my colleagues to help support as many people as possible to access to the amazing benefits of fishing. I want to encourage everyone to enjoy all the natural benefits of spending time in nature next to water, and even catching some amazing  fish along the way!”

Recently, service users from East Hampton ward  visited Whitmore fisheries in Kirkham and yet again, was a very successful and enjoyable day out.
