He graduated from Southampton University in 1999 before completing specialist psychiatric training qualifications in Bristol and Adelaide.
Dr Luffingham has gained wide experience in psychiatry working across a number of inpatient and community settings in the UK and Australia, both in the NHS and private sector, and worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist since 2010.
He is a General Adult Psychiatrist specialising in Personality Disorder and complex trauma, with a special interest in Autism. Other areas of interest include ADHD, Rehabilitation Psychiatry, Mood and Anxiety Disorders, patient engagement and supervision. He has trained in CBT and is qualified in diagnosing ADHD (DIVA) and Autism (ADOS) and has lived carer experience in these conditions.
He was a nominated finalist for Cygnet Consultant of the Year in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025 and won a Special Recognition Award in 2025.
