Cygnet Bury Forestwood hold Neurodiversity Celebration Week event

The Speech and Language Therapy team at Cygnet Bury Forestwood put together a celebration of all things neurodiverse, as part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2024.

Leaflets, mind maps and positive posters on autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Development Language Disorder were shared with staff and the young people.

Activities were provided for everyone to participate in.

Dyslexia: Reading sentences upside down, back to front, matching words and meanings and reading words which are spelt wrong
Dyspraxia: Tin Can Alley, how many tins can you knock over using your less dominant hand
DLD: Sequencing stories, including both familiar stories and less well-known stories
ADHD: Colouring in mandala
Autism: Sensory activities including colourful spaghetti, Oobleck and Moon Dough
Staff and Young People wore colourful clothing to show the colourfulness of neurodiversity and wore stickers saying “Neurodiversity is my superpower” or “I support neurodiversity”.

There was a wishing well in which everyone threw in a coin that had something they wish they knew about neurodiversity or something they wish people knew about their neurodiverse condition.
