Phoenix Ward – Acute Inpatient Mental Health

Gender: Male

Age: 18+

Beds: 19

Phoenix Ward at Cygnet Hospital Wyke, is our 19 bed male mental health acute service. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.

The ethos of our service is about assessing and treating individuals in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we support the men in our care to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

Our team will work closely and collaboratively with service users, their families and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge. Our approach is recovery focused and supported by a comprehensive multidisciplinary team, contributing to shorter lengths of stay.

“I just want to say the help and support which Wyke has given to him has been amazing. He is in a much better place than he has been on any other hospital admission. We are extremely grateful as a family for that”-Family member

The ward offers a psychoeducation programme to help service users better understand their illness. Workshops and support are offered to help service users cope with everyday tasks after they leave the hospital. Group work includes anger management and problem solving. One to one therapy is also available on a regular basis.
