Health and Wellbeing Day at Cygnet Oaks

The team at Cygnet Oaks, our high dependency rehabilitation service in Barnsley, recently held a Health and Wellbeing Day to promote good health and meaningful activities.

The new role of health and well-being peer mentor was promoted and there were a number of stalls with each stall promoting a different health theme. One service user ran his own station raising awareness of prostate cancer, another service user ran a table tennis tournament promoting activities and has raised over £600 and completed a sponsored 45.6 mile (73.38 kilometers) run over three weeks in the gym for Cancer Research UK. A physical healthcare nurse also ran a stall about diabetes.

Staff and service users were encouraged to guess the amount of sugar in some food and drinks and the winner of the event was a service user who won a prize. Finally there was a selection of fresh fruit and low-calorie snacks to promote healthy eating and overall the event was a success.
